Summer Cup 2022/2023 and Winter League Announcement

SUMMER CUP 2022/2023

A new format has been approved for the Summer League.

The two divisions (Division 1 and Division 2) will play two separate cups. No more intra-division cups like last year.

Both will have the same format: 9 Teams per league (Olympia will join Division 1), 3 groups of 3.
Home and Away games.
Top 3 of each group (based on points, head-to-head and goal difference) will go straight to semi-final plus the best second (based on points and then goal difference).

The draw will take place as soon as Summer League is over (last round is the 22nd, so unless there are some extra games to be played, still possible, it will be around that week).

There will be no seeding, with a live draw on zoom like last year (you are all welcome to attend).

Temporary dates (we will confirm before the draw):

Promotions / Relegations for Summer League

Summer League and Winter League will run separately from now on (or unless a new format gets into play next year based on the number of teams).

The current promotions, relegations and play-off for promotions will be counted towards Summer League 2023/24.

So for example, at the current stage:
– Panorama and Randburg will go to Division 1 from September 2023
– Old Parks and Florida will go to Division 2.
– Sundowners FC and Lenasia will play the promotion play-off the same day of the finals, in one venue (if any of those 2 teams are in the final the game will be played a week after).

Winter League 2023

Winter League this year will be shorter and with 3 divisions, to avoid the issues that have been plaguing teams in the past (lack of players / commitment due to cold and injuries, worse load shedding scenarios since it’s winter). Unlike Summer League, there will be no promotions and relegations.

The Divisions will be based on the final positions during Summer League.

Top 6 teams Division 1 will be playing Winter League A

Bottom 2 teams Division 1 + Olympia + top 3 teams Division 2 will be playing Winter League B

Bottom 6 teams Division will be playing Winter League C.

There will be 6 teams per league, so only 10 rounds.

If we start second week of June, we have the following (temporary) rounds:

There is a chance some other team may join us for Winter League in that case we will try to accommodate them.

Last year we started Summer League the 19.10. Winter league may have, unlike Summer League, a quick 3 weeks FA Cup style but that is depending on the additions of teams (if a team gets added to a 6 teams group, the rounds go up from 10 to 14, making cups impossible)

General Meeting

Before Winter League starts it would be great to meet all the teams once again to have a catch up, to discuss further changes and amendements in order to keep the league running and making an enjoyable experience for all the team.
