Winter League to start next week, the calendars!

With the cup competitions concluded, our attention now turns to the 2024 Winter League, which will run from the 10th of July to the 23rd of October.

The teams are divided into three divisions: Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3.

Below, you can find the fixtures for each division: (there may be some minor changes in case of fields unavailability in certain periods)

Global United and Highlands Park B crowned Cup Winners

Two thrilling finals were played tonight, showcasing the talent and determination of teams that truly deserved their place in those games.

In Division 1, Global United continued their dominance by securing their third consecutive trophy. Following their victories in the Winter Cup 2023 and the Summer League 2023/24, they completed a remarkable double by winning their second Division 1 Cup. In the final, they triumphed over Sundowners, the league runners-up, with a convincing 3-1 victory.

Division 2 saw an equally intense match between Lenasia, the winners of this year’s Division 2 league, and Highlands Park B. The game was tightly contested, but Highlands Park B emerged victorious with a 3-2 win, adding another trophy to their collection after their 2022 Winter Trophy success.

Semifinals result

As the season draws to a close, the anticipation builds for the finals scheduled for next week.

In Division 1, a thrilling match saw Global and Randburg go head-to-head, with penalties deciding the outcome. Global ultimately secured the victory. Meanwhile, in a derby clash, Sundowners triumphed over Sundowners 2 with a decisive 5-2 win.

Division 2 also witnessed some exciting action. Lenasia continued their stellar season by defeating Rush 3-1 to book their place in the final. In another closely contested match, Highlands Park B edged out Randfontein with a 3-2 victory.

The finals are set for the 3rd of July, promising an exciting end to the season.

Division 1 Final: Global United vs. Sundowners at Randburg. Kick-off at 20:00.

Division 2 Final: Highlands Park B vs. Lenasia Old Boys at Panorama. Kick-off at 20:00.

The semifinals draw

In Division 1, the draw has paired these teams for the upcoming matches:

  • Sundowners vs. Sundowners 2 (to be played at Sundowners’ home ground)
  • Randburg vs. Global (to be played at Randburg)

In Division 2, the semifinals are set as follows:

  • Highlands Park B vs. Randfontein (to be played on neutral ground at Panorama, both team to split the cost for field and officials)
  • Rush vs. Lenasia (to be played at Panorama)

The semifinals will take place next week, on the 26th of June. Each match will consist of 90 minutes, with a direct move to penalties in the event of a draw.

Select Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 6

The final group matches are complete, and now it’s time to focus on the semifinals. Here’s the rundown of the last batch of games:

Division 1, Group A: Global United, after winning 24 of their last 26 games, surprisingly lost to Highlands Park A. Despite this, they didn’t qualify due to Sundowners 2’s 3-2 victory over Atletico.

Division 1, Group B: Panorama forfeited their game, and Sundowners stayed on top with a 4-4 draw against City.

Division 1, Group C: Randburg maintained their top spot with a 3-3 draw against Leeds.

Qualified for the semifinals:

  • Sundowners FC (1st Group B, 16 points)
  • Randburg (1st Group C, 10 points)
  • Global United (1st Group A, 13 points)
  • Best Second Place: Sundowners FC 2 with 12 points in 6 games (2.0 average). Both Joburg City (1.66) and Leeds (1.75) fell short in their last games.

Division 2:

Division 2, Group A: Highlands Park B finished on top with a 7-2 win against Florida. GPMI finished even after a 7-3 defeat to Old Parks 2.

Division 2, Group B: In a tight race to the top, Lenasia (7-0 vs Old Parks) and Randfontein (2-1 vs Warriors) both finished with the same points. Lenasia edged the top spot thanks to a superior head-to-head record (4-1 and 3-4).

Division 2, Group C: Rush, already qualified, lost 4-2 to Olympia, who finished second.

Qualified for the semifinals:

  • Highlands Park B (1st Group A, 16 points)
  • Rush FC (1st Group C, 9 points)
  • Lenasia Old Boys (1st Group B, 13 points)
  • Best Second Place: Randfontein with 13 points in 6 games (2.16 average), beating GPMI (1.16) and Olympia FC 2 (1.5).

Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 5

The group stage is nearing its end, and we have the first confirmed semifinalists in both the Division 1 and Division 2 cups.

Division 1:

Group A:
Global’s 5-1 victory over Atletico secured them the top spot. Sundowners 2 and Highlands Park A, who faced off in a match that ended with a 2-1 victory for Sundowners, are still battling for second place, which could potentially earn them the best second-place berth.

Group B:
Sundowners cemented their dominance with a fifth consecutive win, defeating Panorama 3-1 to claim the top spot. Joburg City, with a 2-1 away win at Olympia, remains in contention for the best second-place berth.

Group C:
Randburg and Leeds are set to face each other in a decisive match to determine the group winner. If the teams finish level on points, head-to-head results will be the first tiebreaker, followed by goal difference.

Division 2:

Group A:
Highlands Park B qualified for the semifinals after defeating GPMI. The match between Florida and Old Parks 2 was postponed.

Group B:
Lenasia and Randfontein are tied at the top with equal points after winning their games. The final round will determine who advances, or if both teams progress.

Group C:
Rush FC secured their semifinal spot with an away win against Flying Eagles.

Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 4

With only two rounds remaining before teams qualify for the semifinals, here is the current situation:

Division 1
Group A:
Three teams are still fighting for the top two spots. Global’s 3-0 victory over Sundowners and Highlands Park A’s 5-2 win against Atletico have tightened the race. Now, three teams are within four points of each other.

Group B:
Sundowners secured their fourth win with a 1-0 victory over Olympia, meaning they only need one more point next week to advance. Meanwhile, Joburg City remains in contention after a 4-1 win over Panorama.

Group C:
Randburg needs just one more point to qualify for the next round after their 5-0 win against Barcelona.

Division 2
Group A:
GPMI’s 5-0 loss to Florida allowed Highlands Park B to take the lead after their 6-1 victory over Old Parks 2.

Group B:
Lenasia’s 4-3 defeat to Randfontein, coupled with Old Parks’ win against Warriors, means the top three teams are within one point of each other. There’s still a slight chance for the bottom-placed Warriors to advance.

Group C:
Olympia’s 5-0 win against Eagles means Rush needs just one more point to qualify for the next round.

Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 3

As we reach the halfway mark in the group stages, here’s the current situation:

Division 1:

Group A: Global’s remarkable streak of 18 consecutive wins came to an end with a 2-2 draw against Highlands. Sundowners 2 secured a victory against Atletico, moving up to second place, just one point behind Global.

Group B: Sundowners dominated their third game, defeating Joburg City 6-3, solidifying their strong position. Panorama edged out Olympia with a close 3-2 win.

Group C: Randburg ascended to the top spot after an impressive 4-1 victory over Leeds.

Division 2:

Group A: Old Parks forfeited their match against GPMI, while Highlands Park B climbed to the top alongside GPMI after a decisive 5-2 win over Florida.

Group B: Lenasia maintained their lead with a commanding 6-1 victory over Old Parks. Warriors and Randfontein played to an exciting 4-4 draw.

Group C: Rush continued their winning streak, defeating Olympia 2 with a score of 3-1.

Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 2

The cup group matches continue into the second round with thrilling encounters across all divisions.

Division 1

Group A:

  • Global beat Atletico with a resounding 9-4 victory, maintaining their top spot.
  • Sundowners moved up to second place with a solid 2-0 away win against Highlands.

Group B:

  • Panorama forfeited their match against Sundowners due to a lack of players.
  • Olympia clinched a 4-3 victory over Joburg City, moving up to second place.

Summer League Cups (2023/24) – Round 1

As the league seasons draw to a close, the spotlight shifts to the cup competitions.

The structure for both Division 1 and Division 2 cups is identical, featuring three groups. Two of these groups consist of four teams each, and one comprises three teams. Teams compete in both home and away matches. The group winners and the best-performing runner-up across all groups advance to the semifinals.

In the opening round of Group A for Division 1, Global extended their league dominance with a 4-2 victory over Sundowners 2. Meanwhile, Highlands A beat Joburg Atletico with a 6-2 scoreline. Over in Group B, Panorama faced difficulties fielding a complete team, resulting in a 3-0 forfeit to Joburg City. Sundowners set a strong start with a 5-0 thrashing of Olympia. In Group C, Randburg kicked off their campaign with a solid 4-2 win against Barcelona.

Turning our attention to Division 2, Group A saw GMPI securing a 3-1 win against Florida, while Highlands Park B outscored Old Parks 2 in a high-scoring 6-3 game. The so-called ‘group of death’, brimming with the top four teams from this season’s Division 2, witnessed Lenasia dispatching Randfontein 4-1, and Old Parks narrowly edging out Warriors 3-2. In Group C, Fling Eagles clinched a narrow 4-3 victory over Olympia 2.
